Jeannette Kamahele

Jeannette Kamahele vanished on the morning of April 25th, 1972. She was seen at 9:30am hitchhiking on the highway 101 on ramp in Cotati going north to the Santa Rosa Junior College.

A witness said they observed her getting into a faded brown 1950-52 Chevrolet pick-up truck outfitted with a wooden homemade camper shell that included a flat roof covered with roofing shakes. It was driven by a white male, 20-30 years old with light brown hair in an afro style. He also appeared to have large sideburns or a beard. It was also observed that from the way he sat in the vehicle he could have been tall.

Jeanette’s roommate reported her missing when she didn’t come home that night and later learned she hadn’t been seen at school. By the roommate’s account, Jeannette was never flighty and always attended her classes.

With no word of his daughter’s whereabouts, Miss Kamahele’s father flew in from Japan to search for her himself. He returned home empty handed.

Jeanette Kamahele is described at the time of her disappearance as being:

  • 20 years of age

  • 5’5″ tall
  • 120 lbs
  • Brown eyes
  • Black hair cut in a shag style
She was wearing:
  • A brown sweater
  • Blue jeans
  • Leather sandals

It is important to note what the victims of these murders were wearing or had with them when they were last seen alive. This is because serial killers often keep souvenirs from their victims, or take clothing and jewelry to sell or reuse as gifts for friends and family. Ted Bundy, Joseph D’Angelo and Richard Ramirez all had this habit.

If you recall seeing or receiving any thing that matches what Jeanette Kamahele was wearing around 1972 it’s important to remember where you saw them or who you saw them with.

By the time Jeannette disappeared Kim Allen had already been found murdered, so Sonoma County was on high alert. A classmate and friend of Jeannett’s set up a carpool system for students in the area to discourage hitchhiking and authorities who had already set up a Secret Witness Fund,  added a reward for any information on Kamahele’s whereabouts.
